This course aims to improving writing and oral presentation skills that are vital for young scholars and scientists in cognitive and behavioral sciences. Undoubtedly, it is never an easy task to present or publish one’s work in English-oriented international journals. By providing a practical guide, I will help course attendants to obtain clear focus, and apply good organization skills and straightforward, unbiased language to write academic papers as well as communicate effectively. Through lecturing, in-class discussions, writing assignments and exercises, the students will learn the essential elements of writing an abstract, a method section, and a result section for an empirical paper with the standard APA style.

本課程旨在協助研究生建立科學論文寫作的知識、技巧與自信心,使能成功的溝通、發表研究成果。我將按步就班、深入淺出的介紹科學論文寫作的精義,輔以隔周的自我寫作練習習題,以全英語教學循序漸進的提升學生的基礎英文寫作能力;從寫好一個完整無誤的句子到建構一篇刊論文,並知悉將學術成果公開發表的步驟與過程。本課程的目標會放在讓修課學生1. 熟稔論文投稿與發表的過程步驟, 2. 能夠寫出好的 Abstract,3. 熟悉期刊論文的基本段落結構,4. 熟稔APA 6.0 寫作格式,5. 能開始建構自己的學術履歷表(Curriculum Vitae)。本課程為英語授課。
This course aims to help graduate students gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed in communicating about their work. I will step-by-step introduce the quintessence as to how to write and publish a scientific paper in simple language. With in-class lectures and take-home exercises every other week, this course was designed to gradually enhance the course participants’ English writing proficiency, from writing an impeccable sentence to organizing a scientific paper. The objectives of this writing course are multi-fold. By the end of the course, the participants are expected to be familiar with 1) the logistics for submitting a peer-reviewed scientific paper; (2) the basics of a well-written abstract; (3) the basics of a well-structured empirical paper; (4) key concepts with the APA 6.0 publication style; (5) how to prepare a Curriculum Vitae. The language of instruction will be English.
