This course aims at improving writing and oral presentation skills that are vital for young scholars and scientists in cognitive sciences. Undoubtedly, it is never an easy task to present or publish one’s work in English-oriented international journals. By providing a practical guide, I will help course participants to obtain clear focus, and apply good organization and straightforward, unbiased language to write papers as well as communicate effectively in scientifically related applications. Through lecturing, in-class discussions, hands-on experience, writing assignments, course participants will learn the essential elements to keep in mind when writing an abstract, a methods section, and a results section for an empirical paper with the APA style.

本課程旨在協助研究生建立科學論文寫作的知識、技巧與自信心,使能成功的溝通、發表研究成果。我將按步就班、深入淺出的介紹科學論文寫作的精義,並以全英語教學循序漸進的提升學生的基礎英文寫作能力;從寫好一個完整無誤的句子到建構一篇刊論文,並知悉將學術成果公開發表的步驟與過程。本課程的目標會放在讓修課學生1. 熟稔論文投稿與發表的過程步驟, 2. 能夠寫出好的 Abstract,3. 熟悉期刊論文的基本段落結構,4. 熟稔APA 6.0 寫作格式,5. 能開始建構自己的學術履歷表(Curriculum Vitae)。本課程為英語授課。
1. This course aims to enable graduate students to gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed in communicating about their work. I will step-by-step introduce the quintessence as to how to write and publish a scientific paper in simple language. The curriculum was designed to gradually enhance the course participants’ English writing proficiency, from writing an impeccable sentence to organizing a scientific paper. The objectives of this writing course are multifold. By the end of the course, the participants are expected to be familiar with 1) the logistics for submitting a peer-reviewed scientific paper; (2) the basics of a well-written abstract; (3) the basics of a well-structured empirical paper; (4) key concepts with the APA 6.0 publication style; (5) how to prepare a Curriculum Vitae. The language of instruction will be English.
