人聲是最自然的樂器，而歌劇則集合人聲、合唱、器樂、舞蹈、戲劇、舞台藝術、服裝設計、燈光及音響手法等專業領域之大全。本課程旨在介紹西方歌劇的歷史和發展和基本的聲樂概念，以歌劇中的情感表現為分界，介紹以義大利文、德文、法文、英文、及其他語文寫作的歌劇簡史，輔以基礎的舞台動作訓練，以文學和戲劇的角度帶領學生欣賞樂曲，作角色分析、作曲手法分析、以及歌劇文史的探討和分析，讓學生熟練欣賞並悅納人聲的藝術，並把歌唱的藝術融入日常生活中，培養正確基本發聲觀念、動作、及對歌劇藝術的鑑賞能力。
Human voices are the instrument from Heaven and touches heart directly. Opera is the genre that coordinates voice, instrumental music, chorus, dance, stage production, and visual art designs. This course is designed to help students understand the literature and the history of the Western opera. Students will understand and recognize a variety of operatic genres written in Italian, German, French, English, and other languages. Through classes in operatic literature, basic stage movement, and improvisation, analysis on characters and compositional technique,
students will gain knowledge that is imperative for them to listen, understand, and appreciate the art of opera.

6-8 人為一組，實際分組人數將依選課總人數有所調整。
以上課提到的歌劇為出發點，挑選感興趣的角色組合，就當時文化背景，社經地位，思索各角色應有的反應及緣由，適度介紹剖析，並以自身話語重新演繹6-8 分鐘片段。音樂部分，可由播放錄音取代現場演唱。
