教學綱要
課程概述Course Description
This course aims to introduce the development of Taiwanese traditional theatrical arts, and their historical backgrounds. This course will mainly focus on Peking opera (Beijing opera), Taiwanese opera and Taiwanese puppet shows. Peking opera was popular in Taiwan because of the support from the government, and has won a lot of attention from the public. Taiwanese operas are the most representative local art among all theatrical performances. They are composed of chanting, singing and dancing, and the language is easily to be understood by the public, and the performance is popular among all walks of life. Taiwanese puppet shows were firstly introduced from China during the Ching Dynasty. They were performed during all kinds of ceremonies and rituals, and the language they presented was graceful. Yet, with the change of the political and cultural conditions, Taiwanese puppet shows vary greatly, and not just limit themselves for the purpose of celebration or god-worshiping. This course will introduce the basic elements of these three arts, including their historical development, cultural background and theatrical performance styles. Hopefully, students will learn to appreciate these arts, gain much familiarity and love for Taiwanese traditional arts.

學生可以: 1) 對於台灣傳統戲曲文化有基本的認識。 2) 培養對本土文化的興趣與藝術美感的喜好。 3) 了解文化保存與創新的重要性。 Students will be able to: 1) To achieve the basic understanding of the Taiwanese traditional theatrical arts. 2) To develop students' interest in local arts and their appreciation to the aesthetic. 3) To understand the importance of cultural preservation and innovation.
